I think every device that uses the same power should use the same charger/connector. Conversely devices that need different power should never use the same connector.
About time! Laptop chargers should be the same, external hard drives, any chargeable and/or portable device. Sure, takes some doing, but bloody hell, think of how much better it would be: for maunfacturers, consumers, frequent travelers, business and hospitality concerns who want to provide good service and facilities, airports…..the list goes on.
