I agree totally with ghost1, i never use the windows default apps. The only exception might be the occasional use of the calculator.

The reason i use windows (xp at that) is because it does not abstract all of the necessary technicalities and because there are heaps of alternative applications!

I'm not going to say Mac's applications are necessarily bad, but in making things simpler and more "user friendly" they become less advanced and configurable.

I like this idea. I never use the programs that come packaged with Windows, that's one reason I wouldn't use a MAC either is that you are bullied into using the default stuff and there isn't as much 3rd party software.

I like being able to find programs that are very tweakable (thinking Firefox and VLC).

if people want hand-holding they can use Vista right?
i might actually try this Windows 7 (never used Vista in my life...just looks crap and XP does everything i want)

MICROSOFT HAVE TRIED AND ARE FAILING TO ATTRACT A FOLLOWING FOR VISTA wga, licensing and all the hoohaa to ensure you pay foor what they deem you will use is killing them, and rightly so. Dell are now shipping more PC’s with a Linux distro as the Operating System because the system works and there is no crap involved with updates patches and wga rubbish. Frankly,the Redmond Goliath is going to creamed by the Linux David and it’s not far off.

I have no issues with any flavor of OS. I mainly use Windows out of necessity and convenience. I love the fact that linux is open to anyone to try, learn, and play with. Live cds make the whole experience as smooth as can be.

My problem with apple is I can't just go out and buy OSX, I have to buy a MAC.

Even if I were to go out and buy identical hardware and build it myself I would have to patch/crack the OS and violate their licensing terms as punishment for not wanting to spend up to and over twice as much for the same hardware.
