Learn to Cut a Pineapple With Confidence

8:00AM Kevin Purdy | Few foods evoke the feeling that warm weather has returned like the pineapple, but even fewer foods inspire such quizzical reactions when it comes time to actually serve the thing. Instructables posts a guide to getting the most juicy yellow stuff out of that expensive (for moderate-climate buyers, anyway) purchase. You’ll need a large, sharp knife and a small thin blade, but the author notes a bread knife and thin fillet or boning knife are the best combo. Need to cut for rings or slices? Roll a Mac Mini Media Center with Leopard

6:00AM Adam Pash | We’ve talked about building a Mac mini media center and other ways to pimp your mini in the past, but blogger Jon Hicks revisits the Mac mini media centre with a focus on using it with Leopard and EyeTV (a Mac DVR solution). While Apple TV is doing its best to justify a place in your living room, it still doesn’t time-shift television, and many Mac enthusiasts still find that the Mac mini still outdoes Apple’s latest media centre offering. On the other hand, if you’re still rolling Panther on your Mac, you could just install Apple TV on it and call it a day. More »

Deep-Clean Tough Spots Around the House

5:00AM Kevin Purdy | Real Simple offers three-step processes to tackle the oft-neglected spots around the house that require a little more motivation to get into. From hardwood floors to drapes and curtains and into furniture fabric, the advice is sound and possibly worth printing, if only for the little nuggets of wisdom that prevent further cleaning down the line, as with this cabinet idea; Consider an idea from How Clean Is Your House?’s Aggie MacKenzie: Store muffin tins, woks, and other rarely used things in plastic bags so you won’t have to rinse dust off the next time you use them. What parts of your home space do you least look forward to spiffing up, and how do you fit it into your schedule? Let’s hear about it in the comments. Photo by ewen and donabel. OS X on a UMPC Tablet

4:00AM Adam Pash | Following in the footsteps of our sub-$800 Hackintosh, blogger Kevin Tofel installs OS X Leopard on his Samsung UMPC. Faux Hackintosh manufacturer Psystar may be a hoax, but rolling your own Hackintosh is still all the rage. More »

The Power-Drill Brush Means Serious Cleaning

3:00AM Adam Pash | If you don’t feel like you’re doing a job right unless you involve power tools in the mix, web site Sleepy Dog Labs details how to put together a cleaning brush with power-drill chops. In all it’s a pretty simple process, and when you’re done you’ll be begging for an excuse to do some cleaning. The author uses his brush to clean the bathtub, but this power brush is the natural enemy of any surface where grime reigns. Bathtub Cleaning Drill Brush [Sleepy Dog Labs via Make] More »

Repair an old NES System for a Few Dollars

2:00AM Kevin Purdy | Few families made it through the 1980s without collecting one or more Nintendo Entertainment Systems, but many of them sit unusable today, no matter how hard you blow into them. Wired’s Chris Kohler and his brother Dan show in the above video that given a screwdriver, a 72-pin connector available for a few dollars online, and a wee bit of patience, the garage-bound game system can be revived and made ready for duck hunting, Koopa-stomping, or whatever lies inside the cartridges you haven’t sold off.
