I've used the Ultimate Boot CD with my external drive, and it saved my rear-end several times on my XP PC.

Problem: It appears the latest version of DriveImage XML supports Vista (which I have on my laptop), but no version of UBCD currently supports the latest DiX.

With or without UBCD, it would be great to have a "live disc" version of DiX, which would make a complete restore much easier than having to access it from another PC.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I've read numerous reference on the net to people restoring an image created using drive image xml from one computer to another over a network.

However, I can't get this to work for the life of me.

The drive image xml gui will not detect a mapped network drive (in my case anyway). When I click on "restore" only local disks show up.

And there are no command line options for restoring an image that I know of, only for backing one up.

Is it possible to RESTORE an image over a network or not, and if so, how?

Furthermore, in lieu of that, does anyone know if the files that are created by drive image xml are usable with other free disk imaging/restoration programs that DO support restoring over a network if drive image xml does not?

Thank you for your help.

Hello,I have been using Drive Image XML v1.21 with UBCD v3.12. I have been imaging computers using this with success since last fall. That is until a couple of days ago. Suddenly, after imaging the new system it does not find the bootable drive. The image is XP Pro SP3, which has been sysprepped.I boot from UBCD, delete the partition, creatre a new partition, reboot the ubcd, format the partition, drop the image from a network drive, use drive management to mark the partition as active, and restart. All I get is a flashing cursor...any ideas?
Thanks in advance
